The Community Foundation was established in 1992. The Foundation's assets come from gifts in a variety of ways and are made by individuals, corporations and organizations interested in improving the quality of life in Alger County.

The Community Foundation provides financial support through grants to qualified tax-exempt organizations for projects aimed at solving community problems or enhancing life in the county.

Grants are made in the field of cultural arts, community service, education, the environment and conservation, health and human services, youth and scholarships.

Mission: ALGER REGIONAL COMMUNITY FOUNDATION provides support to enhance the quality of life in Alger County through the building and growth of "permanent endowment funds" from a wide range of donors. We will focus our grantmaking to address community needs and enhance opportunities in the areas of charity, education, culture, environment, recreation, youth, and social welfare. We will provide for the future of ARCF by passing our knowledge and skills on to the next generation by building leadership in our Youth Advisory Committee.

Role: The Community Foundation will provide financial support to qualified tax-exempt organizations for projects aimed at solving community problems or enhancing life in Alger County. The Community Foundation will play a selected leadership role through service as: a catalyst for change, an innovator to solve problems, a partner with other community organizations, and as a resource for solutions to emerging community needs.

Support comes from the income of permanently endowed funds contributed by individuals, businesses and organizations. The Community Foundation does not participate in advocacy or lobbying.

The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors which is responsible for policy-making, oversight of operations and final grant decisions.
